Doug Scheid, AIA, NCARB
30 Years of Professional Experience in the Architectural
and Building Industry
Doug’s first structure as a budding architect was designed while attending the University at Buffalo’s School of Architecture in the summer of 1983: the Pro Shop for Beaver Island Golf Course. After graduating, Doug worked for a diverse architectural firm in Buffalo, NY on a wide range of project types. He earned the title of Project Manager in less than two years, bringing in his first commission in 1985.
The following three years involved government, community, private, industrial, and residential design work culminating in a multi-phased rehabilitation project where Doug was not only the architect, but acted on behalf of the owner as construction manager during actual construction. After initial registration in 1988, Doug worked as a facilities engineer for a manufacturing company with locations from Philadelphia to San Francisco to Ontario, Canada. This experience has proven essential in his understanding of long-term operating costs and engineering impact on projects.
In the fall of 1989, Doug started his architectural practice, which continues to operate as Scheid Architectural, having completed over 1,200 projects ranging in value up to $15,000,000. Expanding market segments include Industrial, Recreational, Medical, Banking, Office, Educational, and Community. Doug has earned the following degrees: Associate of Applied Science in Architecture (AAS); Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture (BPS); Master of Architecture (M-Arch); Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Doug is a member of Alpha Rho Chi, and was awarded the 1984 Medal for Leadership, Service and Merit at the University at Buffalo. His desire to serve the public through volunteer efforts continues today. He is past chair and a member of the Grand Island Zoning Board of Appeals, Long Range Planning Committee, and various blue ribbon committees concerning public law and ordinance development. Doug has donated time and services to several not-for-profit organizations, including St. Columban Center, St. Leo the Great, St. John the Baptist and The Children’s Guild of Buffalo. Professional memberships such as The American Institute of Architects and the National Fire Prevention Association help Doug keep current with issues that affect the practice of architecture and creation of buildings.
Doug is a National Council of Architectural Registrations Board Certificate Holder, (NCARB), which permits reciprocal registration in most locations. He is currently licensed to practice and holds registrations within the following locations: New York, New Mexico, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Florida, Nevada, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, North Carolina, Michigan, Hawaii and West Virginia.
